The Lawyer Work Redesign Programme for Leadership

 

The Lawyer Work Redesign programme is based on the idea that the best way to develop leadership and improve the viability and leadership effectiveness of a law firm or department is through the daily work of its lawyers and the opportunities such work presents for lawyers to make a contribution towards that improvement.

 

Using as its foundation, the model of leadership in legal practice developed in the course of research involving 233 lawyers in 14 countries which showed that the only significant influence on lawyers' leadership development and the most significant of three factors which influence the effectiveness of firm leadership is the design of work, the programme offers law firms and departments a self-driven and research-based way to address the most significant gaps in their approach to developing lawyers as leaders.

 

The Lawyer Work Redesign programme helps lawyers improve their work and achieve objectives by guiding them through a self-directed process which consists of  

  • online work reviews and firm assessment surveys
  • three one-hour individual consultations, either face-to-face or by phone
  • practical reflection, research and planning tasks undertaken in between consultations, either independently or in a small group.

 

The programme is targeted at the non-partner, non-manager lawyer, in particular lawyers with less than 10 years PQE. This is because the typical nature of their roles, with its inherent lack of variety, responsibility and accountability often result in dissatisfaction and infrequent opportunities to practice leadership. This needs to be redesigned to better suit the role holder and enhance firm/department viability. There are two options available for participation. The group option for five or more participants includes firm assessment surveys and a group report based on participants' personal development plans, produced in the course of the programme. An invoice can be provided based on the number that will be participating in the programme.  

The individual option costs £300 per participant and can be ordered online.

What Next? Once you have placed your order, you will be sent a link to the work review (and firm assessment, if participating as a group). After completing the review, you will be invited to schedule your first work redesign consultation.
